The race is on, only 5 months until Summer and somewhere in between 'I need to hit the gym today' and 'I have too much work on' is where you will find me, with the intention to get my perfect summer body. We all find it hard to get motivated, to press pause on whatever it is you are doing and head out for a sweat session. However, with the help of Tom Noon, personal trainer at Primal Training Club, I am focussed and dedicated to achieving that ideal Summer body I know I will be happy with.
I spoke to Tom about the best routine for me and he clearly stated ''If girls want a tight toned beach ready body, then lifting weights is a fantastic idea!'' saying that, we head over to the club in Liverpool for a training and technique session and here is what happened.
Girls Who Lift
Above I am learning to get in the 'rack position' for a front squat and other olympic lifts. Tom coached me through, cueing me to ensure my technique was effective and most importantly safe.
Tom told me "People in general should lift because it increases your quality of life as you age. Your metabolic health is drastically improved, psychological health is improved, risk of injury is reduced, plus you look and feel better about yourself." That is good enough for me! His knowledge is second to none, as all the team at Primal are experts in their field.
Above Tom took myself and my sister through the process of a deadlift. A really good whole body exercise and very good for the back, bum and hamstrings. I really am not confident when it comes to lifting weights, so this session was really valuable for me to take into my training plan for 2017.
I know a lot of women fear they will become too muscular if they start lifting weights, but you will not become bulky overnight. From a health perspective the benefits are amazing, the more muscle you have, the better your metabolic health.
Primal arent just about muscle though! They focus on helping people #becomebetter and reach personal goals. Primal offer one to one personal training delivered in small group sessions and the group training offers all of this but also offers a sense of community and social interaction. I got the sense they want to help create a better me and make sure I get a sustainable lifestyle plan out of it, not just a quick fix. I can't wait to go back and try one of their group sessions.
